I–196 is the primary road access in and out of the Holland Area, providing direct access to Chicago (146 miles) and Grand Rapids (27 miles). Running north from Holland along the Lake Michigan coastline is US 31, which links the city with Grand Haven (22 miles) and Muskegon (35 miles). M-45, just north of Holland is an east-west route between Lake Michigan and Grand Rapids. M-40 runs southeast from Holland to Allegan, then heads to the state line.
Bus Services
Public Transportation is provided by the local taxi services and the greater Holland area’s public transit system, Macatawa Area Express (MAX). MAX operates three fixed routes with buses arriving at stops every 30 minutes as well as a 24-hour advanced reserved ride service. The adult rate for the fixed route is $1 and it is $2 for the reserve option. Seniors, ADA, and children under 17 have fares that are half the price of the adult fare. Train Access
The Padnos Transportation Center in Holland, located at 171 Lincoln Avenue, provides travelers and commuters with access to daily train service to Chicago and points in between. At the station, there is an indoor waiting area, pay phones, restrooms, wheelchair lift and the Quik-Trak ticketing machine.
Local Airports
Commercial passenger air-services are offered at the two major West Michigan Airports, Gerald R. Ford International Airport and Muskegon County Airport. The Tulip City Airport in Holland provides a full range of professionally staffed aviation services, including passenger charters and air freight operations. Private pilots and corporate aircraft can also fly into Park Township Airport.
